About Rick Alva Jensen

Rick Alva Jensen, 50, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Mesa, Arizona, on February 11, 2026. While his life was shorter than we would have wished, he lived it fully with enthusiasm, generosity, and compassion.

Rick was born on January 14, 1976, in Mesa, Arizona, to Al and Brenda Jensen. He attended MacArthur Elementary, Kino Junior High, and graduated from Mountain View High School. Rick achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor in Scouting. He also served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brisbane, Australia.

Rick is survived by his parents, Al and Brenda Jensen; his four sons, Darren Jensen, Brett Burton, Clint Burton, and Hudson Burton; his sister Keri Ellenberger (Aaron); his brother Rahn Jensen (Jamie); and his sisters Kristle Jensen and Kastle Cardon (Patrick). He is also survived by 11 nephews, 3 nieces, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Rick was a high-energy soul who loved others unconditionally. He was quick to smile and laugh, and he had a remarkable gift for turning strangers into friends. He worked tirelessly to overcome his weaknesses, facing life’s challenges with enduring hope and a deep desire to grow. Though life was not always easy for Rick, he continued to meet it with a smile and did his very best to find happiness. Even in the midst of his own struggles, he never stopped making others feel like they were the most important person in his world.

He was so deeply loved, and though this parting is only temporary, he will be dearly missed until we are together again. Love you eternally, Rick.

Sending our sincerest condolences to Al, Brenda and family at this time of loss.
Rick was so loved at the John Volken Academy and will be sorely missed. He was quick to lend a helping hand or some kind words when needed and did it with a smile.
It was always a highlight to spend Saturday mornings in the kitchen talking to Rick getting cooking tips and sharing stories. Rick loved his family and was especially proud of his sons and the wonderful young men they are. It’s nice to know a part of him will live on through them.
May you find comfort in knowing how much he was loved by those whose lives he touched around him.

Rick was one of those rare souls who leaves a lasting imprint on your heart. In the short time I knew him, he deepened my testimony of our Savior in a way I never expected.

I will always cherish the afternoon we spent talking while he trimmed our trees. What seemed like an ordinary day became something sacred. As he worked, we shared our testimonies and spoke about faith, family, and purpose. I never could have imagined how meaningful that simple moment would become.

Rick wasn’t just a tree trimmer. He was a devoted provider, a hard worker with a strong will to live, and a man who deeply loved his family. He spoke with enthusiasm about his goals and his hopes for the future — about why he worked so hard and what he was building for the people he loved most.

You could see the sincerity of his heart in his eyes. He lived with intention. He moved through life with purpose.

Though we may not understand why his time here was shorter than we hoped, I trust that God, in His wisdom, called him home.

I will always be grateful for that day — for the chance to truly see and know a special soul during his time on earth. His memory remains a quiet reminder of faith, goodness, and the eternal nature of love.

I am very sorry for your loss. When I heard I just remember us loving WWF wrestling and having matches on your trampoline. I know how much he loved scouts. I was right there with him. Having Rick as a friend and doing scouts together was some of the best if not memories I had. I still remember pine wood derbys. We al get smoked. Rick was a good friend and even though its been so long I still think of those days. I am truly sorry for your loss.
